Can I use my international driving licence in the UK?

If you’re an EU resident and you hold an EU licence, you should be able to use your driving licence in the UK.

For non-EU citizens, the rules state that you should be able to use your international driving licence for up to 12 months in the UK.

After that, you would have to hand in your old driving licence and apply for a UK provisional licence before retaking your driving test in this country. If you do so and drive on your provisional licence, you should take out learner driver insurance.
