If you’re not planning a winter excursion it’s easy to forget about your campervan in the winter, but it doesn’t have to be that way. There are all manner of things you can do with your campervan when it’s not on the road.
Here the team at Sterling insurance provides seven great ideas to use your campervan during the long dark winter months.
1. Wining and dining
Turn your campervan into a bijou bistro for a romantic meal for two. Dress to impress, take a bottle of wine and settle down for a romantic night.
If the kitchen in your van is only good for beans on toast, prep the meal in your home and carry it across. You can always make things easier by having a cold starter and ready made dessert so you only have to worry about keeping the main course warm.
Dress the table with the best cloth, cutlery, crockery and glasses, play some soft music, dim the lights and you’ll be good to go.
When the night is over there will be no worrying about who will drive or booking a cab because home is just a few footsteps away and you can shut the door on the mess and leave the clearing up until tomorrow.
2. Have a sleepover
Most children love bedtime adventures so plan a campervan sleepover for you and the kids while it is parked in the safety of your drive.
Bring their favourite teddies, plenty of nibbles, games and torches and you are guaranteed a family sleepover to remember.
3. Cleaning challenge
Your campervan is probably parked up for winter but it shouldn’t be too long before you head out for your first road trip next year, so make the most of the downtime by ensuring your van is fit for purpose.
Give it a good clean, even a lick of paint or varnish where needed, and involve the children – they will love helping.
4. Make your campervan an alternative office
Get your campervan kitted out with everything you need for a hard day’s study or work. Laptops, reference books, printer – you can move everything from the house for the day and you’ll probably pick up your household Wi-Fi signal for uninterrupted connectivity.
It’s better to be safe than sorry so remember to relocate your work gadgets back into the house at the end of the day.
5. Create an Indoor League
Does anyone remember Indoor League, the 70’s daytime TV show hosted by ex-England cricket legend Fred Trueman? It featured all sorts of games including darts, pool, bar billiards, skittles, table football, arm wrestling, and shove ha’penny.
You could set up your own family Indoor League with games you and your children can enjoy in the fairly limited space of your camper.
Beer pong (or fruit juice pong), blow football, Scalextric, quizzes and shove ha’penny would be easy to recreate.
6. Make your campervan your refuge
If you are feeling unwell but showing no signs of coronavirus, your campervan is self contained and would be the perfect place in which to isolate. And all the while, you will know that loved ones are just a few steps away and there to help should the need arise.
